Trauma-Informed Therapy in East Nashville

Your Nervous System Learned What It Needed to Learn.
Now We Teach It Something New.

Something happened. Maybe a series of things, over a long time, in the relationships that were supposed to be safe. Maybe you've never called it trauma — it just feels like the way things are, the way you are, the patterns you can't seem to get out from under no matter how hard you try.

The anxiety that shows up before it should. The way certain moments pull you somewhere you don't want to go. The distance you keep — even from people you love — because closeness has felt dangerous before. The part of you that's always braced for something, even when things are fine.

None of that is weakness. It's your nervous system doing exactly what it learned to do. And what it learned made complete sense — once.

The work here is helping it learn something new.

What We Mean by Relational Trauma

Trauma takes many forms. The work I do is specifically rooted in relational trauma — the kind that happens in the context of relationships and attachment bonds, often over time rather than in a single incident.

This includes:

  • Adverse childhood experiences — neglect, emotional unavailability, inconsistency, or harm from early caregivers

  • Attachment wounds — the lasting impact of relationships that weren't safe, predictable, or attuned

  • Relational patterns rooted in what you learned early about whether connection is safe

  • The cumulative weight of being unseen, unheard, or consistently misattuned to

  • Experiences of betrayal, abandonment, or emotional injury in significant relationships

You may not have used the word trauma to describe any of this. Many people don't. What they know is that something from the past keeps showing up in the present — in their relationships, their bodies, their responses to the world — in ways they can't fully explain or control.

That's what we work with.

A Note on My Approach

I want to be clear about how I work with trauma — because transparency matters here.

My approach is attachment-based and trauma-informed, drawing on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I am not trained in EMDR, CPT, Prolonged Exposure, or Somatic Experiencing. If you're specifically seeking one of those modalities, I want you to find the right fit — and I'm happy to help you locate someone who offers them.

What I offer is a relational, emotionally focused approach to understanding how trauma has shaped your patterns, your nervous system, and your sense of self — and a values-led path toward building something different.

How We Work With It

With EFT we look at the attachment cycles that trauma created — the emotional patterns that formed in response to early relational wounds and now show up in your closest relationships and your inner life. The protective responses that once kept you safe. The ways you learned to reach for connection or pull away from it. The cycles that keep running even when the original threat is long gone.

Understanding those cycles from the inside — feeling into what's actually happening beneath the surface — is often where something begins to shift. When the pattern finally makes sense, it starts to lose its grip.

With ACT we build psychological flexibility and resilience alongside what you've experienced. Not by erasing the past or forcing a reframe — but by developing a different relationship with what your nervous system carries. Getting clearer on your values. Finding the capacity to move toward what matters even when the old patterns are still present. Building a life that feels genuinely yours rather than one organized around what you've survived.

Together these approaches don't ask you to forget or minimize what happened. They ask you to understand it — and find out what becomes possible when it no longer runs the show.

This Might Be You If...

  • You carry the weight of what happened in early relationships — even if you've never called it trauma

  • Certain people, situations, or moments pull you somewhere you don't want to go

  • You find yourself in the same relational patterns no matter how hard you try to do things differently

  • Closeness feels both longed for and frightening

  • You're hypervigilant, easily overwhelmed, or feel emotionally shut down in ways you don't fully understand

  • Your body holds tension, anxiety, or responses that don't always make logical sense

  • You've done a lot of thinking about what happened but haven't been able to feel your way through it

  • You want to understand your patterns — not just manage them

  • You're ready to do the work but want someone who will go at a pace that's actually safe

What This Work Is and Isn't

I want to be honest with you about what to expect here.

This is attachment-based, trauma-informed individual therapy — relational, emotionally focused, and grounded in EFT and ACT. It is a space to explore, understand, and gradually shift the patterns that trauma created.

This is not crisis support. If you are in active crisis please reach out to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.

This is not EMDR, CPT, Prolonged Exposure, or Somatic Experiencing. If you are specifically seeking one of those approaches I would encourage you to find a therapist trained in the modality that's right for you. I'm happy to help with that referral.

This is not a quick fix or a linear process. Trauma work takes time, trust, and the right conditions. What I can offer is a grounded, honest, genuinely relational space to do that work at a pace that's safe for you.
