Life Transitions Therapy in East Nashville

Change Is Normal. Getting Stuck is the Challenge.

Change is the most human experience there is. Every life — no matter how carefully planned or fiercely protected — moves through seasons of transition. New relationships and endings. Career shifts and identity changes. Loss and new beginnings. The arrival of children and the departure of who you thought you were. Deconstruction of beliefs you built your life around. The slow, disorienting realization that the life you're living no longer fits the person you're becoming.

Change itself isn't the problem. What brings people to therapy is almost always what happens when they resist it.

When we resist change — when we hold tightly to the story of who we were, what we expected, or how things were supposed to go — we create cycles. The stories we tell ourselves activate emotions. Those emotions reinforce the stories. The stories keep us spinning in the same place. And somewhere in that loop, moving forward starts to feel impossible.

That's where the work begins.

What's Happening

Most people in the middle of a major life transition aren't struggling because something is wrong with them. They're struggling because they're human — wired for connection, continuity, and meaning. When those things are disrupted, even by changes we wanted or chose, the ground shifts beneath us in ways that can be hard to name.

The grief of leaving a career that defined you. The disorientation of a relationship ending. The identity loss that comes with becoming a parent. The quiet unraveling of beliefs you never thought to question. The longing for a version of your life that no longer exists alongside the pull toward something you can't quite see yet.

All of it makes complete sense. And all of it can be worked with.

How We Work With It

I draw on two approaches that work particularly well together for life transitions — Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

With EFT we look at the cycles keeping you stuck. The stories you're telling yourself about the change, the emotions those stories activate, and the ways those emotions loop back to reinforce the stories. Getting underneath the cycle — feeling into what's actually there rather than what the story says should be there — is often where things begin to shift. When the emotional layer finally makes sense, the cycle loses its grip.

With ACT we build the capacity to move through change rather than around it. Resilience. Psychological flexibility. Presence with what's actually happening right now rather than what was or what might be. Clarity about your values — what actually matters to you independent of the role, relationship, or identity that's changing. And the willingness to be vulnerable enough to let the transition take you somewhere new.

Together these approaches don't just help you survive a transition. They help you learn how to flex with change — so the next one doesn't knock you down the same way.

This Might Be You If...

  • You're ending or beginning a significant relationship — marriage, divorce, separation, new partnership

  • You're navigating a career change, job loss, or the loss of professional identity

  • You've become a parent and don't fully recognize yourself anymore

  • You're deconstructing faith, beliefs, or a worldview you built your life around

  • You've moved somewhere new and feel more unmoored than you expected

  • You're in the aftermath of a significant loss — a person, a relationship, a version of your life

  • You're entering or leaving a major life stage — midlife, empty nest, retirement, young adulthood

  • You know something needs to change but feel paralyzed about what or how

  • Life looks fine from the outside and feels unrecognizable from the inside

The Invitation in Every Transition

There's something worth saying about the transitions that hurt the most — the ones you didn't choose, the ones that upended everything, the ones that left you not knowing who you are anymore.

Those transitions contain something. Not a silver lining — that's not what this is. But an invitation. To look honestly at what mattered, what no longer fits, and what might be possible in the space that's opened up. Most people only get there with support. With someone who can help them see the cycle, feel what's underneath it, and find their footing on the other side.

That's what this work is for.

Why Nashville

Nashville knows transitions. It's a neighborhood built by people who left somewhere else, started something new, took a creative risk, or simply found their way here and decided to stay. The people who come to my office have often done the same — navigating reinvention with more courage than certainty.

If that resonates, you're in the right place.

A Note on Private Pay

I work with new clients on a private pay basis. No diagnosis required to begin — life transitions don't need a clinical label to deserve real support. 50-minute sessions are $175. Learn more about how that works.
