Therapy for Men in East Nashville

Something Feels Off. Maybe You're Not Sure What.

You can't always name it. It's not a crisis. Nothing has catastrophically fallen apart. But something underneath isn't right — and you're aware enough to know that ignoring it isn't working anymore.

Maybe it shows up as irritability you can't quite explain. A flatness that follows you into rooms where you should feel fine. A distance in your relationships that you want to close but don't know how. A sense that you're performing a version of yourself that fits everyone else's expectations but doesn't quite feel like yours.

Most men who find their way to therapy arrive here the same way — knowing something is off without being able to fully name what.

That's not a problem. That's actually exactly where we begin.

What Gets in the Way

We don't arrive as blank slates. Every man comes into therapy carrying a set of stories — about what strength looks like, what vulnerability means, what it means to need help, what kind of man he's supposed to be. Some of those stories were handed to us. Some we built ourselves. Most of them have been running quietly in the background for so long they feel like just who we are.

They're not who you are. They're what you learned.

Cultural conditioning around masculinity doesn't just shape how men present themselves to the world — it shapes how connected men are to their own bodies, their own emotions, and their own inner lives. When you've been taught — explicitly or implicitly — that feelings are weakness, that needing support is failure, that you should be able to handle it on your own, you don't just stop feeling. You stop recognizing what you feel. And that disconnection has costs.

In relationships. In your body. In the quiet moments when the performing stops and something underneath makes itself known.

How We Work With It

I draw on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) — two approaches that work particularly well for men who are ready to do honest work but aren't quite sure where to start.

With EFT we begin to pull apart what's actually happening beneath the surface. The patterns that keep showing up. The emotions activating those patterns. The stories — about who you are, what you're supposed to feel, what strength means — that have been reinforcing them. We look at where those narratives came from and what they've cost you. Not to assign blame or dwell in the past, but because understanding the source of a pattern is often the first step toward changing it.

With ACT we build something in place of what we uncover. Clarity about your actual values — not the ones you inherited, the ones that are genuinely yours. A different relationship with the emotions you've been taught to distrust. Psychological flexibility — the capacity to feel hard things without being run by them. And a clearer sense of who you actually are beneath the version you've been presenting to the world.

This isn't about becoming a different man. It's about finding the one who's already there.

This Might Be You If...

  • You know something is off but can't quite name what it is

  • You're disconnected from your emotions in ways that are starting to cost you

  • Your relationships — romantic, familial, friendships — feel more distant than you want them to

  • You find yourself performing a version of yourself that doesn't quite feel true

  • Anger, irritability, or numbness keeps showing up in ways you don't fully understand

  • You've been handling everything on your own for so long that you've forgotten what support feels like

  • You grew up with a particular story about what it means to be a man — and you're starting to question it

  • You've thought about therapy before but weren't sure it was for you or whether it would actually work

  • Something happened — a loss, a transition, a relationship rupture — and you haven't fully processed it

  • You want to be more present, more connected, more fully yourself — and you're not sure how to get there

What Men Often Find Here

Men who come to therapy expecting to be analyzed, advised, or fixed often leave surprised by what it actually is. A real conversation. Someone who isn't going to tell you what to do or hand you a list of strategies. Someone who will sit with you in the hard stuff, help you make sense of what's there, and trust you to do something with what you find.

The work isn't about becoming someone new. It's about uncovering the version of yourself that got buried under everything you were taught to be — and finding out what becomes possible when you stop performing and start actually living.

Most men who do this work say some version of the same thing: I wish I'd done it sooner.

A Note on Working With a Male Therapist

I'm a man who has done his own work in this area. I'm still doing it. I know what it feels like to carry narratives about masculinity that don't quite fit. To be more comfortable solving problems than sitting with feelings. To wonder if needing support means something about you.

It doesn't. And I bring that understanding into the room — not as a script, but as something lived.

A Note on Private Pay

I work with new clients on a private pay basis. No diagnosis required to begin — and no insurance company defining what our work should look like or how long it should take. 50-minute sessions are $175. Learn more about how that works.
